Tips to Avoid Scam & Fraud Calls on Medicare in Ohio

The calls are relentless. NOBODY IS STOPPING THEM- not the FTC, not the Ohio AG office, not the Ohio Dept of Insurance. It is up to you as a savvy person to not be fooled or scammed. If you give info, you will likely have your medical insurance changed, often without your approval. Here in Dayton, my average client receives 10-50 unsolicited calls soliciting Medicare insurance. THESE ARE ILLEGAL UNDER OHIO LAW AND DO NOT CALL REGISTRY, but again, nobody is stopping them or enforcing current laws designed to curtail them.

Most of you are probably already on the Do Not Call Registry.

If not, you can register here: https://www.donotcall.gov/

But I would say that it is hardly enforced

You can report unwanted calls here:

https://www.donotcall.gov/report.html#step1

Ohio does not have a separate Do Not Call law, although the federal laws may be enforced in federal or state court by the Attorney General. Businesses that violate the do not call provisions may be ordered to pay damages of $500 per call $10,000 or more

The do not call provisions cover any plan, program, or campaign to sell goods or services

You can reach the Ohio Attorney General’s Office here:
